UPPL party will decide on possible alliance with BJP during election, says Promod Boro

TAMULPUR: With an eye on securing an 'absolute majority' in the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) polls, the United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) organized a massive 'PARIVARTAN' (change) rally in Tamulpur, Baksa. The party's leader Promod Boro appealed "like-minded parties" to form the Government in the region

Upon being asked whether the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) could be future allies, Boro said, "Whether we (the UPPL) forge an alliance with the BJP or not will be decided by the party. After the elections are over, the core committee of the party will decide whether to align ourselves with the BJP party."

Meanwhile, the UPPL party has been accused by its detractors of cosying up to the saffron party. Political pundits too have predicted that the parties will jointly form the Government id they are able to pool together the required number of votes and seats.

Boro also said that all the corruptions in the region would come to the fore if his party is elected to power in the 40-member Council.

"In 14 years, Rs. 6,000 crore was released to the BTAD by the Government. However, all this money has been gobbled up by the BPF party and its leader Hagrama Mohilary," Promod Boro said. "Investigations shall be carried out into these alleged discrepancies. The names of all those who are involved in corrupt practices shall be revealed."

Lambasting former BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary for his alleged acts of corruption, Boro said, "Himanta Biswa Sarma, who has been allied with Hagrama since time immemorial, has now been compelled to speak out against his corrupt activities. That speaks volumes about the extent of corruption in the region."

The former student leader also expressed confidence that the UPPL party shall be able to form the Government with an 'absolute majority'. "I have belief that our party will win 30 of the Seats and form the Government in the BTC region. People do not want the BPF era back. They now want change, and I am confident that the UPPL will win a good number of votes."
