Sleuths of the vigilance and anti-corruption wing of Assam Police in a series of operations raided at least four properties in Guwahati belonging to forest official Aftabuddin Ahmed, on the suspicion of him owning disproportionate assets. The vigilance and anti-corruption wing had registered a case on Tuesday against the official, following a previous inquiry which revealed that Ahmed owns assets worth several lakhs, in the state as well as outside, which are disproportionate to his source of income. Ahmed’s multi-storey residences at Sundarpur and Nayanpur and those at Spanish Garden and Six Mile were searched during the raids.
During the raids, sleuths have found several documents related to his property and bank details and other investments papers. There are several properties which were suspected to be documented at highly undervalued rates. Ahmed, known to be close to a former Congress minister was presently posted as DFO(Silviculture). It may be mentioned that there were several allegations against the officer, particularly during his tenure as DFO, Nagaon, where he was posted for several years.
