On Saturday, when the whole state of Assam was busy observing Kati Bihu, locals of a village of Moran took to the streets in protests with earthen lamps. The villagers were protesting the long pending issue of electricity in their village. The village of Deodhai Bongali Gaon of course have electricity poles but there is no electricity in the village since ages. The protestors burnt the effigy of their local MLA Chakradhar Gogoi.

The village comprising of more than 70 families does not have electricity since India’s independence. 74 years have passed since Independence but the government has miserably failed to provide the villagers with a electricity connection. Electricity poles have been erected but the villagers still lives in darkness. The villagers dependent on earthen lamps to do their daily chores. Students study under these lamps. The villagers have been taking up the issue with the local MLA Chakradhar Gogoi but unfortunately, their pleas have fallen into deaf ears.
As a last resort, the villagers have threatened to boycott the 2021 state assembly elections if the government fails to provide them with electricity immediately.
