Guwahati, September 23, 2019:

The voting for the bye-elections in the assembly constituencies of Sonari, Jonia, Ratabari and Rangapara in Assam is currently underway. The voting began at around 7 am earlier in the morning today.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has fielded Bijay Malakar in Ratanbari SC constituency, Tawfiqur Rahman in Jania constituency, Rajen Borthakur in Rangapara constituency, and Nabanita Handique from Sonari constituency.

Meanwhile, Congress Party fielded its four candidates – Keshab Prasad Rajak from Ratanbari SC constituency, Shamsul Hoque from Jania constituency, Kartik Kurmi from Rangapara constituency and Sushil Suri from Sonari constituency.

The All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) has fielded MLA Rafiqul Islam from Jania constituency. The voters today will decide the fate of these candidates. Except Jania, the major fight will be between the BJP and Congress. The bye-elections are being conducted using EVMs and VVPATs.
