The Assam Police will soon bring arrested Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist Qamar-uz-Zaman to Assam on a transit remand.
Disclosing this, Assam’s Director General of Police Kuladhar Saikia said they were in talks with their Uttar Pradesh counterpart in this regard. Saikia said so far eight people had been arrested in Assam for their alleged nexus with the terror organisation and several others were being interrogated.
Earlier this month, the Uttar Pradesh Police had arrested Zaman, a Hizbul terrorist from Kanpur. He had allegedly planned to carry out subversive acts in the state during Ganesh Chaturthi. Later, based on his leads, eight people were arrested from Assam and Meghalaya.
That Zaman, who hails from Jamunamukh in central Assam, joined the terror group was known a few months ago when a photo of him, holding an AK-47 rifle, went viral on the social media. He went to Kashmir a few years ago to do some business. It was here that he came in touch with some Hizbul operatives and joined the terror organisation.
The terror group had plans to launch a “start up” in Assam and radicalize Muslim youths. Its target area was Lumding in Hojai district, the police said earlier.
