GUWAHATI: The first Budget Session of the 15th Assam Legislative Assembly has started from today onwards with obituary references followed by the Question Hours, where Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has asserted that his constituency Jalukbari do not need any police station because he believes that people can bring peace, answering to an opposition leader's question.

The AIUDF legislator Hafiz Bashir Ahmed has asked for a new police station comprising non-BTAD areas as the existing Bogoribari Police Station falls under BTAD areas.

In the same context, Wazed Ali Choudhury, MLA from Salmara South, has said that three district councils of his constituency fall under the jurisdiction of Dhubri district and one falls under Salmara South.

“Now our police district is in Dhubri district and the civil district is in Salmara South,” said Choudhury.

“Now if the government is thinking of a new police station then I’d request the chief minister to upgrade the Bondihana Out Post to a police station,” Choudhury added further.

Assam CM Sarma, who is holding the Home Ministry portfolio of the state as well, responded, "We establish police stations in lower and middle Assam based on crime rates. wherever the crime rate is high we establish a police station there."

Sarma expressed, "Generally, I really wish that nobody ever feels the requirement of a police station. Our society should reach a position of zero crimes."

"If still, legislators feel that some areas in their constituencies have frequent crime cases or are vulnerable to crimes then they may send a proposal to the Assam Director General of Police in that regard. The decision will be taken after monitoring all the required criteria,” said Sarma.

Sarma asserted, "I am a legislator from Jalukabari constituency and I do not require any police station there. What is the need of a police station when people themselves can bring peace and stay united?"

Though Sarma has asked Choudhury to submit his request in black and white so he could issue notification for the same.

CM Sarma has also assured them to consider the matter once looked thoroughly into it as the government is already planning for new police stations.
