The corpse of a dead female wild elephant has been recovered at Daurajhar near Indo-Bhutan border area in Assam’s Baksa district on Thursday. As per reports, the elephant breathed its last on Wednesday.
The locals suspect that the pachyderm died of food poisoning.
The elephant had also suffered a head injury.
In another incident in the same district, a herd of wild elephants descended into the Guwabari area near the Indo- Bhutan border.

It has been reported that the herd caused massive destruction in the region.
One of the wild elephants of the herd broke into the kitchen of Marish Bagan Primary School and also destroyed the house of many local residents.
Fearing the fury of the herd of wild elephants, the locals left their house and spent the night out in the cold. They had tried to send the elephants back to the hillside, but the herd remained in the Guwabari area and left late in the morning.
The long-suffering locals have urged the forest department to take necessary steps to stop the herd from destroying the human habitats in the region.
