An elephant was badly hit by the Siliguri-Dhubri Intercity-Express today at 8:30 AM between Banarhat and Nagrakata.

The train’s engine hit the jumbo when it was trying to cross the tracks in the jungle. The accident has left the elephant severely injured. Videos of the critically injured elephant have surfaced on social media.
The videos clearly depict the jumbo’s painful accident. It is seen dragging itself out of the train track after its engine hit it from behind. The wounded elephant struggled to get out of the railway track.
75741 SGUJ-DBB (Siliguri-Dhubri) Intercity Express’ engine was also severely damaged after clashing with the elephant. The Driver of the train has been admitted to the Alipurduar Railway hospital following injuries.
Currently, the elephant is under vigilance.
It is to be mentioned here that the Banarhat-Nagrakata rail route passes through a major elephant corridor and trains plying on the tracks end up clashing with elephants.
