Hundreds of women from the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti on Sunday protested against the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 on Sunday and gherao’d the BJP party office at Hengrabarari.
The protesters shouted slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and condemned the stand of Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on the Bill.
Further, when the situation turned violent and the police personnel tried to take the protesters in custody even the mekhla chador of a woman came off which was caught by the cameras.
The protest was taken out after Prime Minister Narendra Modi on made his stance clear on the Bill and stated that Bill would be placed before Parliament. “We shall see to it that it gets passed as well”, the Prime Minister had stated at a mass gathering.
