Would like to thank AGP for supporting Citizenship (Amendment) Bill: Shiladitya Dev

Guwahati, March 13, 2019:

While the state of Assam tries to figure out how to react to the reunion of politics’ long bickering couple, the AGP and the BJP, controversial Hojai MLA Shiladiya Dev welcomed Assam’s biggest regional party back into the alliance. Moreover, Dev sees this reunion as BJP’s unequivocal support for the Bill.

“They (the AGP) have taken the right decision. It has become clear that they don’t have any further misgivings about the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 and now, they are, in fact, supporting it. Thus, I would like to extend my gratitude to them”, the MLA said.

It is to be mentioned that the AGP party parted ways with the BJP on January 7 and opposed the Bill in New Delhi while it was being readied for tabulation at the Rajya Sabha, but ever since then, they have adopted a flip-flopping stand regarding the same. After much speculation, the two parties joined hands again on Tuesday and this move is widely being seen as the AGP’s begrudging support for the Bill in exchange for political power by supporters of the regional party.
