Earlier, Yadav and his aides Apurba Kumar Baruah, and Avik Saha on February 13 filed a petition in the Court of the Special Judge NIA and CBI, seeking an audience with Gogoi and other imprisoned peasant netas.

In the petition, Yadav and his associates stated that "the petitioners are the social activists and well wishers of Sri Akhil Gogoi and others and therefore the petitioners want to meet them at Guwahati Central Jail."

Talking to Inside Northeast, Yadav said that he has come here with peasant leader Avik Saha to "thank" Gogoi for his role in the anti-CAA protest. "The principal objective of meeting Akhil Gogoi who is in jail under UAPA for a crime which is not specified so far. No one knows what is the criminal act that he did, what is the violence that he planned or incited, we have no idea. But, he is in jail."

Yadav also told us that the struggle against the CAA, that spread to all corners of the country after the initial agitation in Assam and the Northeast, would continue and Akhil would soon be released from jail.

Meanwhile, Gogoi and other Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) leaders Dhaijya Konwar, Bitu Sonowal, and Manash Konwar have been sent to judicial custody for alleged links to maoists. Akhil and his cohorts have been booked by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the peasant leader is perhaps one of the first in the Northeast to be booked under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
