You speak the truth in India, you die: IPFT leader Aghore Debbarma

Guwahati, January 29, 2019:

Eleven parties from Northeast India came together today to take a stand against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016. Many of the BJP allies from around the Northeast came together to discuss a course of action and finally decided on taking the issue to Prime Minister Narendra Modi as well as President Ram Nath Kovind.

Aghore Debbarma, affiliated with the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT), while talking exclusively to InsideNE from the venue of the meeting, lamented the state-of-affairs in the state. “There is a heavy influx of Bangladeshis in Tripura and it is going on. If I say this, I will be called “communal”. If I speak the truth, I will be called “communal”. Gandhi once preached ‘Satyameva Jayate’, but the ones who speak the truth in India shall die. We have no right to say anything”, he stated.

Debbarma also expressed concern over the dwindling percentage of the indigenous people in Tripura, with Bengalis now accounting for almost 80% of the population. “Let the Bangladeshi Hindus be shared with all 21 states. The Tripura people are supposed to die without using atom bomb. We merged with India on 15 October 1949 when we were a majority, but now we have become a microscopic minority. Soon, our numbers will be zero. What will we do?” he queried.

He also asked what will happen once the Bill is passed as Bangladeshis are already coming, enjoying and getting facilities and opportunities from the Biplab Kumar Deb-led government in the state.

“Only superficially, BJP, Congress and Congress are there”, he added, lamenting the political scenario in the state of Tripura and the helplessness faced by the indigenous people in the face of the dramatic demographic replacement that is happening in the state.

Debbarma also expressed hopes of statehood for the indigenous people of the state of Tripura.
