Zubeen Garg, Anti-CAA Movement Leader Hugs Pro-CAA CM Sonowal at Filmfare, Pic Goes Viral

Guwahati, February 16, 2020:

Assamese heartthrob Zubeen Garg who has been steadfast in his opposition to the Citizenship (Amendment) Act or CAA embraced Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal at the 65th Filmfare Awards.

It may be mentioned here that the ice between the CM and the ace musician had started developing after the Government's announcement of the CAA. Last year, Zubeen had started chastising the CM during his musical performances. During the anti-CAB movement last year (when mounting pressure on the Government led to the 'defeat' of the Bill) Zubeen had also penned a heartfelt letter to the CM.

Time and again, Zubeen has exhorted Sonowal to reconsider his stand on the CAA, although the CM refused to deviate from the party's stand on the issue.

Now, Zubeen, who recently joined the All Assam Students' Union (AASU) leaders in protests, finally met Sonowal face to face.

In their encounter at the 65th Filmfare Awards held in Guwahati for the first time, Zubeen can be seen embracing the CM, while surrounded by BJP and AGP leaders. A picture where the duo can be seen hugging it out has been widely shared on social media, with many netizens wondering how their difference have been resolved so suddenly, with the CAA still in effect.
