10 Bangladeshi nationals detained at Assam's New Bongaigaon Railway Station in joint operation

A team of 10 Bangladeshi nationals was detained at New Bongaigaon Railway Station during a joint operation by the Assam Railway Police and Railway Protection Force (RPF), based on specific intelligence inputs.

According to preliminary information, the detained group comprises six men and four women, along with four children who were accompanying them.

The operation was carried out after the group reportedly boarded the down Guwahati–Jammu Tawi Express. Acting on intelligence inputs, Assam Railway Police and RPF officials launched an operation after the train arrived at New Bongaigaon railway station and detained the group.

Preliminary police information suggests that the individuals had allegedly entered Assam through the Dawki border in Meghalaya and were planning to travel to other parts of the country by train.

Police sources further said the group had allegedly travelled from Khulna, Bangladesh, with the assistance of a suspected trafficking network. A person identified as Ranju Mia is suspected to have led the group, according to the preliminary investigation.

The detained individuals are currently being questioned by the Railway Police. Investigators are probing how the group entered Assam through the international border, who allegedly assisted them in entering the state and what their intended destination was.

Police have also begun investigating the suspected broker network allegedly involved in facilitating their movement.

The detention has triggered concern at New Bongaigaon Railway Station, with investigators continuing their questioning to gather further information about the group and their alleged movement into Assam.
