10-foot python rescued from roadside along NH-17 in Assam’s Boko

A python measuring around 10 feet and weighing nearly 20 kg was rescued from the roadside along National Highway-17 at Agchia in Assam’s Boko on September 5.

The snake was spotted near the highway by local residents, who alerted the Forest Department. Personnel from the Singra Range Forest Office reached the location and safely rescued the python.

The reptile was later released into the Luki Reserved Forest during the night, where it could return to a suitable natural habitat.

The rescue comes days after another large python was found in the Belpara area of Boko. On September 4, residents spotted a python estimated to be about 15 feet long and weighing nearly 30 kg perched on a tree.

The sighting had caused concern among villagers following the disappearance of several domestic ducks and chickens in the area in the preceding days. Residents brought the python down from the tree and handed it over to forest officials.

The repeated sightings of large pythons in the area have drawn attention from residents and wildlife enthusiasts, particularly over the proximity of the reptiles to human settlements and roads.
