13-year-old domestic worker found locked in storage space under bed in Guwahati
A 13-year-old girl was rescued from a storage bed, a storage space beneath the bed, during a raid conducted by the District Labour Task Force in Guwahati’s Panjabari area on February 1, officials said.
The rescue operation was carried out in the presence of a magistrate at a residence located at House No. 69, Juripar, owned by a woman identified as Amrin Akhtar Laskar.
According to officials, the minor had been working as a domestic help at the house for the past six years and was allegedly subjected to regular physical abuse.
Acting on complaints received from local residents, authorities conducted the raid. Officials said that sensing the imminent operation, the accused woman allegedly hid the girl inside the storage space beneath the bed, where she remained confined for around 25 minutes before being rescued.
The girl was immediately taken out of the premises and provided assistance. Further legal action is being initiated against the accused under relevant provisions of law, officials added.
An investigation into the matter is underway.
