14 declared Bangladeshi foreigners pushed back from Matia detention centre in Goalpara

Fourteen Bangladeshi nationals, declared foreigners by the Nagaon Foreigners’ Tribunal, were taken from the Matia Transit Camp in Goalpara district on December 20 for pushback across the India–Bangladesh border.

According to official sources, the Border Security Force (BSF) escorted the group at around 10:30 am in a traveller vehicle after completion of legal formalities.

The individuals had earlier been identified as illegal foreigners by the Nagaon Foreigners’ Tribunal.

It may be noted that the tribunal had declared a total of 15 individuals as foreigners. Following this, Nagaon District Commissioner Devashish Sharma issued directions to deport them to Bangladesh within 24 hours.

Acting on the directive, the district administration arranged the pushback of 14 detainees from the Matia transit camp, while the whereabouts of the remaining one could not be immediately ascertained.

Officials confirmed that those being pushed back include eight men and six women.

Although the authorities have not officially disclosed the route of deportation, sources indicated that the individuals are likely to be pushed back through the Mankachar border sector.

The operation reflects continued administrative action against declared illegal foreigners in the state, with security agencies and district authorities coordinating closely to ensure compliance with tribunal orders.
