150 Namghars in Morigaon receive Rs 1.5 lakh each under Asom Darshan scheme
As many as 150 Namghars in Morigaon constituency received financial assistance of Rs 1.5 lakh each under the Asom Darshan Scheme for renovation and development works.
The cheques were distributed by Morigaon MLA Ramakanta Deuri at a programme held at the Morigaon District Library auditorium in the presence of the District Commissioner and the District Development Commissioner.
The initiative is part of the Assam government’s efforts, led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, to preserve and beautify Namghars, which form an integral part of Assamese socio-religious life. Namghars are traditional community prayer houses in Assam established by the Vaishnavite saint Srimanta Sankardev, and they continue to serve as important centres of spiritual, cultural and community activities across the state. The Asom Darshan Scheme seeks to strengthen such institutions and promote the state’s cultural heritage.
Representatives of the Namghar management committees expressed happiness after receiving the cheques and extended their gratitude to the Chief Minister and the local MLA for the support.
Meanwhile, responding to reports by certain sections of the media alleging misappropriation of funds meant for Namghars, Deuri rejected the claims, terming them planned and motivated, and asserted that the funds were distributed transparently in accordance with government guidelines.
