21 illegal structures demolished in Sribhumi as Assam's anti-encroachment drive continues

After similar actions in other parts of Assam, the district administration demolished 21 structures across two villages in Sribhumi district as part of a sweeping anti-encroachment operation, marking the latest in a series of crackdowns across Assam targeting unauthorised occupation of government property.

The demolition targeted residential and commercial buildings erected without permission in Shibbari and Ghilaiti villages under Patharkandi constituency.

Heavy machinery razed the illegal constructions while a sizable security presence—including district officials, police, and paramilitary personnel—maintained order throughout the operation.

District officials stated that residents had occupied the land over an extended period, building houses and shops without legal authority.

Despite their presence in the affected areas, a local Shiva temple and prayer site were spared from demolition following legal concerns surrounding religious structures on government land.
