32 cattle seized in Assam’s Nagaon, two alleged smugglers escape

Thirty-two cattle and two vehicles were seized during an anti-smuggling operation carried out by police in Rupahi area of Nagaon district in Assam, officials said on May 8.
 

According to the police, the cattle were allegedly being transported from Saidaria in Rupahi for illegal smuggling towards Bangladesh.
 

Acting on specific intelligence inputs, a team from Rupahihat Police Station, led by Suruj Dutta, intercepted the vehicles and recovered the cattle.
 

Two alleged smugglers, identified as Faruk and Mustafa, managed to flee from the spot during the operation, police said.
 

However, the driver, Wasim Akram, and handyman, Salman Ali, were taken into custody.
 

The seized vehicles bear registration numbers NL-01M-0791 and AS-12CC-1889. Further investigation is underway, police added.
