35 NDFB cadres, including top leader transferred to Kokrajhar jail amid NIA case handover

35 cadres of the banned National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB), including senior leader M. Batha, were transferred from Guwahati Central Jail to Kokrajhar District Jail on May 20, afternoon.

The transfer comes in the wake of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) officially handing over ongoing cases against the accused to the Sessions Court. These cases involve serious charges stemming from the cadres' alleged involvement in insurgent activities prior to the disbandment of the militant group.

Upon their arrival in Kokrajhar, the accused were produced before the District and Sessions Judge’s Court. After the court proceedings, they were remanded to judicial custody and lodged in Kokrajhar District Jail. The group includes several key figures of the former militant outfit, making this transfer a critical step forward in the judicial process.

Speaking to the media, Public Prosecutor Kankan Kalita stated that all four special NIA cases — No. 01/2025, 06/2015, 01/2016, and 01/2021 — have been transferred to the Kokrajhar District Sessions Court and will now proceed under its jurisdiction.
