4 including Nagaland MLA son arrested for allegedly supplying foreign liquor in Assam

Assam Police late at night intercepted and seized a huge consignment of foreign liquor being transported from the Assam–Nagaland border area. The operation, conducted at Gautam Basti, led to the seizure of 90 cartons of foreign-made liquor, allegedly bound for a dry state.

Police officials confirmed that the liquor was being transported illegally in three vehicles a Ford Endeavour (registration NL-07-CC-4660), a Toyota Innova (NL-10-9697), and a Maruti Jimny (NL-07-CA-3324). Notably, the seized Endeavour bore an official Nagaland government plate, while the other two vehicles displayed party stickers of the ruling Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) in Nagaland.

Four individuals were arrested in connection with the illegal consignment. They have been identified as Enoch Sukhato Wotsa, Njathong Rengma, Inalu Awomi, and Wangkhat. Among them, Enoch Sukhato Wotsa is the son of Dr. Sukhato Wotsa, MLA of Nagaland’s 13-Pughoboto Assembly Constituency.

Investigations have revealed that Enoch is also the Vice President of the NDPP Youth Wing and serves as a councillor in the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC). Police have registered a case under relevant sections and further interrogation is underway to trace the broader network involved in the illicit supply chain.
