475 litres of smuggled petrol and diesel seized in Assam's Kokrajhar
Police seized around 475 litres of petrol and diesel allegedly smuggled from Bhutan during an operation at Karigaon in Kokrajhar district on Saturday, March 7.
According to police sources, a team from Sidli Police Station under Chirang district launched the operation after receiving specific information that illegally smuggled fuel was being transported from Bhutan towards Gossaigaon.
During the operation, police chased the suspected smugglers, following which their vehicle reportedly skidded off National Highway 27.
Police apprehended one person identified as Mohammad Haque Fakir, son of Abdul Fakir and a resident of No. 2 Hasnaguri under Gossaigaon Police Station. However, two other suspects managed to flee from the spot.
During the search, police recovered around 475 litres of petrol and diesel being transported in eight drums of 50 litres each and three drums of 25 litres each.
