49 PMAY houses in Assam's Kaliabor remain incomplete, families left in limbo
In a stark contrast to the promises of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), more than 52 houses approved under the scheme in Kaliabor's Hatigaon Bagisa panchayat area remain incomplete, leaving families in uncertainty.
Situated in the West Kaliabor development block of Nagaon district, the PMAY residential area paints a troubling picture of bureaucratic delays and unfulfilled commitments.
Since the foundation stone was laid on November 27, 2020, only three out of the approved 52 houses have been deemed fit for habitation. Shockingly, many of the incomplete houses lack basic necessities, with some missing windows altogether.
Those fortunate enough to have door-windows installed face another issue, as raw satiana and pine wood used have resulted in anomalous fittings, compromising safety and functionality.
Adding to the woes, not a single toilet or water facility has been completed in the residential area, further highlighting the glaring inadequacies of the project.
The glaring question looms large: when will the PMAY residential area be suitable for the 52 families eagerly awaiting a place to call home?
As the delay persists, families are left in a state of uncertainty, questioning the efficacy and sincerity of the PMAY scheme.
The failure to complete these houses raises concerns about accountability and transparency in the execution of government initiatives.
Meanwhile, the plight of those awaiting their promised homes continues, underscoring the pressing need for urgent action and accountability from authorities responsible for implementing PMAY.
