60-year-old man held for alleged rape attempt on Class 10 student in Assam's Sribhumi

A 60-year-old man was arrested in Assam's Sribhumi district on Saturday, August 15, for allegedly attempting to rape a Class 10 student who was returning home after attending an Independence Day programme at her school.

The incident reportedly took place near Badarpur railway town when the girl was returning home from Badarpur Cooperative Higher Secondary School after participating in the Independence Day celebrations.

According to a complaint filed by the girl's family, the accused, identified as Madan Pal, allegedly intercepted the student on her way home, covered her mouth with his hand and forcibly took her to his house.

He allegedly locked the girl inside a room and attempted to sexually assault her. The girl reportedly resisted, bit the accused on his hand and managed to escape by jumping through a window.

The girl's family lodged a complaint against Madan Pal, accusing him of the alleged offence. The complaint also stated that several women had previously complained against Pal.

Badarpur Police arrested Pal and have launched an investigation into the incident.
