AAKRASU stages protest against government inaction to grant Koch Rajbongshi tribal status, Kamatapur state

The All Assam Koch Rajbongshi Students Union (AAKRASU) staged a demonstration in demands for Kamatapur state and granting of tribal status to Koch Rajbongshis at Golokganj in Dhubri.

AAKRASU members coming from various parts of the state staged protest against the government’s alleged inaction.

The union stated that the BJP government at the centre and state has used the Koch Rajbongshis for election benefits.

The union further stated that if the government doesn’t fulfill the long pending demands of the Koch Rajbongshis they will give a befitting reply in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections along with protests against the government.

“Nobody wants to solve the problems of Koch Rajbongshis. Various organizations and parties don’t want this problem to get solved. Even if we are demanding the state of Kamatapur nobody pays to heed. Without the presence of Koch Rajbongshis BTR is not secure. If the demands of Koch Rajbongshis are not fulfilled stability in BTR is not possible. I appeal to the state government to fulfill the demands of the Koch Rajbongshi Students Union for the state of Kamatapur and ST status to Koch Rajbongshi. We will take a befitting reply in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections if our demands are not met. On January 29 we will carry out a mammoth gathering to protest against the negligence towards Koch Rajbongshis. This state government which is in power on the basis of “Jati mati bheti” should pay respect to our demands as we are sons of the soil,” AAKRASU president Balaram Barman said.
