AASU stages protest in Assam's Morigaon against price rise
Members of the All Assam Students' Union (AASU) on Friday, May 22, staged a protest in Morigaon against the rising prices of essential commodities, alleging that the government had failed to control the market.
The protest was organised by the Morigaon district unit of AASU as part of a statewide agitation called by the student body.
The protesters demanded immediate steps to curb the prices of petrol, diesel, cooking fuel, medicines and other essential commodities.
Carrying banners, placards and symbolic LPG cylinders, the protesters marched through the town raising slogans against the government over inflation and rising living costs.
AASU leaders alleged that the government had remained inactive despite the continued increase in prices of daily-use items, causing hardship to common people.
The student body warned that the agitation would be intensified in the coming days if effective measures were not taken to control inflation and provide relief to the public.
