Ahead of Assam assembly polls, Congress flags development gaps in Kaliabor
With the 2026 Assam assembly elections drawing closer, the Indian National Congress has intensified its organisational and electoral preparations in the 57 No. Kaliabor Assembly Constituency, signalling an early push to challenge the ruling alliance’s hold on the seat.
As part of its strategy-building exercise, the Congress on Monday, February 2, convened a key organisational meeting at Kunwaritol, bringing together party workers from 22 Gaon Panchayats under the West Kaliabor and Kaliabor Block Congress Committees. Leaders and workers from the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) and the Nagaon District Congress Committee were also present, reflecting a coordinated effort to strengthen the party’s grassroots network in the constituency.
The meeting witnessed the presence of several Congress ticket aspirants from Kaliabor, including Pradip Barua, Meghnath Chhetri, Manabjyoti Mahanta, and Manik Bora, underscoring heightened internal activity as the party begins the process of candidate assessment and mobilisation.
According to party sources, the Congress is gearing up for the electoral contest by focusing its campaign narrative on what it describes as “overall development failures” in Kaliabor under the tenure of the sitting alliance MLA, Keshab Mahanta. The party plans to take these issues to the grassroots in the coming months as part of its effort to regain political ground in the constituency.
