AI-morphed photos of students, teachers spark outrage in Assam's Samaguri; one detained
Tension prevailed in Samaguri in Assam's Nagaon district after AI-generated morphed photographs of students and teachers from Alhaj Nurul Hussain High School were allegedly circulated on social media.
According to local sources, the accused, identified as Riajul, had allegedly been creating and sharing digitally manipulated images of students and members of the school's teaching staff using artificial intelligence tools for several days, causing distress among the victims and their families.
The matter came to light after the morphed images went viral online, triggering widespread outrage in the locality. Following the incident, local residents confronted the accused and later handed him over to the police.
Police have taken Riajul into custody and launched an investigation into the allegations. Authorities are examining the social media accounts and digital devices linked to the accused to determine the extent of the circulation and identify any additional victims.
The incident has raised serious concerns over the misuse of artificial intelligence for creating and disseminating objectionable content, particularly targeting students and educational institutions. Legal action has been initiated, and further investigation is underway.
