"AIUDF can never be kingmaker in Assam": Pijush Hazarika hits back at MLA Aminul Islam
Escalating the political war of words ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections, Assam Minister Pijush Hazarika on Thursday, January 15 launched a sharp counterattack on the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), rejecting the party’s claim of emerging as a “kingmaker” in the state.
Reacting to AIUDF MLA Aminul Islam’s statement in Rupahihat that the party would play a decisive role in government formation in 2026, Hazarika asserted that the AIUDF has no political space to assume such a role in Assam.
“The AIUDF can never be a kingmaker in Assam. If they wish to be kingmakers, they should go to Bangladesh. Let them become kings there,” Hazarika said, making it clear that the people of Assam would not endorse any such political influence by the party.
The minister further claimed that the electorate of Assam would decisively prevent the AIUDF from gaining leverage in the state’s power structure, underlining that public sentiment would determine the party’s political limits.
