AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal claims Muslims ‘safer than ever,’ accuses Congress of aiding BJP
All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) chief and Dhubri MP Badruddin Ajmal on Sunday, January 25, urged Muslims across the country to unite against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He also alleged a tacit understanding between the BJP and the Congress.
Addressing the media in Guwahati, Ajmal sought to counter narratives of insecurity among Muslims, asserting that the community remains safe across India. “Muslims across India are safer than ever before. Muslims have nothing to fear. All our Hindu brothers in this country stand with the Muslims,” he said.
Responding to repeated remarks by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma referring to Muslims as “Miyan,” Ajmal downplayed the comments, saying such rhetoric would not impact the community’s resolve. “Let him keep saying ‘Miyan Miyan,’” the AIUDF chief remarked.
However, Ajmal struck a sharply political note while appealing for consolidated minority voting against the BJP. He asserted that Muslims should refrain from extending any electoral support to the ruling party at the Centre. “In our opinion, not a single Muslim should give a single vote to the BJP. If they do, it is a misfortune for our community and our caste,” he said.
Taking aim at the Congress, Ajmal alleged that the party was indirectly facilitating the BJP’s political dominance. “Congress is giving a 100 per cent walkover to the BJP. There is an understanding, and I am saying this openly. They want to bring the BJP back,” he claimed.
Ajmal’s remarks come at a time when Assam’s political discourse has become increasingly polarised, with sharp exchanges between rival parties over minority issues, governance, and electoral strategies. His statements are expected to further intensify debates over alliance politics and minority representation in the run-up to upcoming elections.
