Akhil Gogoi questions Assam CM on BJP MLA's alleged involvement in coke plant grabbing case
Assam MLA Akhil Gogoi on October 9 has thrown light on a BJP MLA's alleged role in forcefully grabbing a coke plant owned by a Kolkata businessman and has demanded that Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma intervene in the issue.
"Under Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's government, is mafia running Assam now? This mafia raj is being led by the ruling party's MLAs themselves. BJP MLA Bhaskar Sharma has been repeatedly accused of running a coal syndicate. Now this time Bhaskar Sharma has been accused of grabbing the factory set up by others in the MLA's constituency in mafia-style", says the Sivasagar MLA in a statement.
On October 8, India Today NE exclusively reported that a Kolkata-based businessman has alleged that aides of a BJP MLA in Assam, at the behest of the MLA, have forcefully grabbed a coke plant set up by the businessman in Tinsukia district of the state.
The businessman also wrote a letter to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on October 4 complaining about “gundaraj” by the MLA and his associates and seeking the chief minister’s intervention in the matter. Speaking about it, Akhil Gogoi said, "Surprisingly, the police is yet to register a case despite informing the Tinsukia superintendent of police in writing".
"Through 'Advantage Assam,' the Assam government is inviting businessmen into the state to invest and ensuring their complete safety as well as the state's stability. However, a member of your ruling party is doing Gundaraj and taken over the Kolkata businessman's industry. This puts an end to rumours that the government is being run by the mafia. Assam's citizens were terrified when you (Himanta Biswa Sarma) were appointed the state's Chief Minister who is a man with allegations. How can a BJP MLA who has committed illegal acts like "secret killings" seize an industry in a mafia-like manner? There is no record of such events in history," said Akhil Gogoi while questioning whether the mafia is in charge of Assam, while also calling on CM Sarma to give justice to Kolkata businessman Ishan Jain and arrest MLA Bhaskar Sharma.
