Ali-Ai-Ligang to be celebrated on February 17; preparations underway in Bokakhat

The Mishing community is all set to celebrate Ali-Ai-Ligang, its premier agricultural festival, on February 17, with preparations currently in full swing across various areas.

In Bokakhat, members of the Mishing community, young and old alike are busy day and night organising the festivities. Various locations in the region are witnessing elaborate arrangements ahead of the celebration.

Community members are preparing traditional food items such as poro aapong (rice beer) and purang apin (boiled rice wrapped in leaves), which are integral to the festival. Cultural performances, including the traditional Gumrag dance, will also mark the occasion.

Ali-Ai-Ligang marks the beginning of the Ahu paddy sowing season and symbolises unity, agriculture, and cultural pride among the Mishing community.
