All tea gardens in Margherita to remain closed tomorrow in tribute to Zubeen Garg

As Assam mourns the loss of its beloved singer and cultural icon Zubeen Garg, the Assam Tea Tribes Student Association (ATTSA) has announced that all tea gardens in Margherita and across Assam will remain closed tomorrow, September 23, as a mark of respect.

Zubeen Garg, who passed away on September 19, was widely celebrated not only in Assam but across India and abroad for his contribution to music and for elevating the state’s cultural presence. His songs, especially those dedicated to tea garden workers and the Adivasi community, remain deeply cherished.

The president of ATTSA Central Executive Committee, Dheeraj Gwala, said the closure is a tribute to Zubeen Garg’s enduring legacy and his close association with tea garden communities. Workers across the 83rd Margherita Legislative Assembly constituency in Tinsukia district have already paid their respects, recalling his presence as a distinguished guest at several community gatherings and his heartfelt engagement with the Assam Tea Tribes Student Association.

“The songs and messages of Zubeen Garg for the tea garden community will remain evergreen. His contribution to Assam’s music and culture will never be forgotten,” Dheeraj Gwala said, announcing the statewide closure of tea gardens on the day of the singer’s funeral.

The move has received widespread support from tea garden workers and the broader community, who will observe a day of mourning to honor the late music icon.
