Alleged abduction and assault case reported in Assam's Bajali; accused youth detained

An alleged case of abduction and assault involving a minor girl has been reported from Charalpara in Assam’s Bajali district, prompting tensions in the area.

According to reports, a youth identified as Mumtaz Ali allegedly lured a Hindu minor girl on the pretext of a romantic relationship and took her to an undisclosed location. It is alleged that the girl was administered an intoxicating substance and later left in an unconscious state at the spot.

Locals reportedly apprehended the accused when he returned to Charalpara today to enquire about the girl’s condition and subsequently handed him over to the police.

The incident led to tension at Pathsala Police Station, where a group of agitated women allegedly assaulted the accused inside the premises.

Police have taken the accused into custody and further investigation into the matter is currently under way
