Alleged arson on Majigaon hill raises environmental concerns in Assam's Bongaigaon
Tension gripped Majigaon in Assam’s Bongaigaon district after a fire broke out on a hill in the area, with locals alleging that miscreants deliberately set it ablaze.
The incident has sparked widespread concern among residents and environmental activists, who fear serious damage to the region’s ecology.
Local nature-loving youths strongly condemned the alleged act of arson, stating that such incidents pose a grave threat to forest resources, wildlife, and the overall environment.
They said repeated occurrences of hill fires point to a lack of timely preventive measures and effective monitoring. The youths also accused the Forest Department of negligence, claiming that regular surveillance and adequate security arrangements in hill and reserved forest areas are not being properly enforced.
Demanding immediate action, they urged the authorities to strengthen patrolling and implement stricter measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
