During the ongoing Assam Assembly election campaign, Union Home Minister Amit Shah addressed a public rally in Nalbari on March 29, announcing that the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) will be introduced in the state in the coming days, including a provision to ban polygamy.
Addressing the gathering, Shah said the proposed move aims to bring uniformity in civil laws and strengthen social reform in Assam.
He also highlighted key welfare initiatives of the BJP-led government, stating that around 13 lakh elderly citizens are receiving regular pensions. Additionally, he said nearly 2 lakh widows have been provided a one-time financial assistance of Rs 25,000.
Urging voters to support the BJP in the upcoming Assembly elections, Shah emphasized the party’s focus on welfare, governance, and development across Assam.
