‘Anarchic forces do not want Assam’s development’: Pijush Hazarika on cancellation of Japan PM’s visit

Assam Minister Pijush Hazarika on June 23 expressed disappointment over the cancellation of the proposed visit of the Prime Minister of Japan to Assam, alleging that "anarchic forces" do not want the state's development.

Hazarika made the remarks while speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a felicitation programme held at the Morigaon district BJP office.

The event was organised to honour Jagiroad MLA and Minister Pijush Hazarika along with Morigaon MLA Ramakanta Deuri.

During the programme, several advocates belonging to the minority community formally joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in the presence of party leaders and supporters.

Reacting to the cancellation of the Japanese Prime Minister's proposed Assam visit, scheduled for July 1, Hazarika said the development was unfortunate and suggested that certain disruptive elements were opposed to the state's progress.

"Anarchic forces do not want Assam's development. It is extremely unfortunate," the minister said.

His comments came amid discussions over the cancellation of the Japanese Prime Minister's visit to Assam, which was expected to boost investment prospects and strengthen economic cooperation between Japan and the state.

The state government has expressed disappointment over the cancellation, particularly as extensive preparations had been undertaken in anticipation of the high-profile visit.

The minister, however, did not elaborate on the specific reasons behind his remarks or identify the groups he was referring to.
