APCC branded ‘APCCBM’ by Himanta Biswa Sarma in fresh political attack

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on February 17 launched a sharp political attack on the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee, branding it as “APCCBM” and claiming the acronym stood for “Assam Pradesh Congress Committee Bangladeshi Muslim.”

Responding to remarks made by former APCC president Bhupen Kumar Borah, who had earlier labelled the state Congress unit as “APCCR,” Sarma said the party was not “APCCR, here R stands for Congress MP Rakibul Hussian, but APCCBM.”

“Borah said Rakibul, but only Rakibul is not the factor because many Rakibul have been born out of it,” the Chief Minister said while addressing the media. He alleged that Congress was moving in a direction that would alienate Hindus in the state.

Stating that he does not usually prefer to comment on the Congress, Sarma added that he had been associated with the party for 22 years and never wanted it to “isolate the Hindus.” He further claimed that demographic and political changes were already visible in districts such as Sribhumi and Hailakandi, alleging that the situation would become clearer in the coming years.

The remarks are expected to escalate the political war of words between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress in Assam, particularly on issues relating to identity politics and illegal immigration.

The APCC has not yet issued an official response to the Chief Minister’s latest statement.
