Armed robbers assault woman at gunpoint during brazen Guwahati heist

Armed robbers allegedly assaulted a woman at gunpoint and looted a businessman’s home during a meticulously planned robbery in Ganeshpara, Guwahati, triggering widespread fear in the locality.

The incident occurred late January 19 night at Snehsraya apartment complex under the jurisdiction of Fatasil Ambari Police Station. The assailants targeted the residence of businessman Anil Deka, striking when he was not at home.

According to police sources, four masked men arrived at the apartment in a white Swift Dzire. Armed with pistols and daggers, they overpowered the businessman’s wife, Karabi Deka, and the family’s car driver. Karabi Deka was reportedly subjected to physical assault, with a firearm allegedly forced into her mouth while the robbers threatened her with sharp weapons.

The attackers carried out the robbery swiftly, completing the operation within approximately 40 minutes. They fled with a substantial amount of cash, gold jewellery, and other valuables.

Anil Deka was away at the time, having gone to drop his daughter, who studies abroad. Investigators believe the gang may have been aware of his absence and planned the robbery accordingly.

CCTV cameras installed in the apartment complex captured the entire sequence of events, providing crucial leads for the investigation. Police reached the spot shortly after receiving information and have launched a detailed probe to identify and apprehend the accused.

The incident has caused alarm among residents of Ganeshpara, raising fresh concerns over night-time security and organised crime in residential areas.
