A chilling armed robbery late Thursday night in Chitlamari-Bongaon village under Tiplai, Dhupdhara Police Station, left a government official and his wife seriously injured. The assailants looted cash, gold ornaments, and dismantled the house’s CCTV system before fleeing.
Around 2 AM, five armed robbers broke into the residence of Sushil Kalita, a government land mandal posted at Rongjuli Revenue Circle, by forcing open the lower section of the main gate. The gang stormed inside while the couple was asleep.
Upon confrontation, the robbers demanded access to the almirah. When Sushil Kalita and his wife Namita resisted, the attackers assaulted them with sharp weapons. Namita suffered a severe head injury, while Sushil sustained injuries to his arm. The couple was tied up and gagged as the robbers ransacked the house, breaking open the almirah and scattering belongings.
The gang fled with a substantial amount of cash and about 15 tolas of gold ornaments. Armed with pistols and khukuris, they also removed the CCTV device installed at the residence.

Family members alerted the police immediately. Dhupdhara Police and Dudhnoi Sub-Divisional Police Officer Nupur Ranjan Neog rushed to the scene and sent the injured couple to Rongjuli Hospital. On Friday morning, they were referred to Guwahati for advanced treatment.
Senior police officials, including Goalpara Senior Superintendent of Police Nabaneet Mahanta and SDPO Neog, visited the crime scene. A forensic team has been deployed to conduct a detailed investigation.
The incident has sent shockwaves across the district, prompting local residents to demand swift action and enhanced security measures in the area.
