"Arrest me if needed, ready to go to jail": Himanta responds to Owaisi case over deleted video

AIMIM chief and Lok Sabha MP Asaduddin Owaisi accused the BJP of circulating a video on social media that he alleged portrays Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma as targeting Muslims. Condemning the video shared by the BJP Assam social media handle, Owaisi termed it “deeply objectionable” and announced legal action against the Chief Minister.

Addressing the issue, Owaisi alleged that the video promotes hatred against Muslims and their religion, and said such content has no place in a democratic society. He stated that the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) would file a police complaint and seek registration of a case against the Assam Chief Minister over the circulation of the video. Despite the controversy, the video continues to surface across social media platforms, even as it was later taken down.

Reacting strongly to Owaisi’s move, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma dismissed the allegations and said he had no knowledge of the video in question. Responding to reports of a case being filed against him, Sarma said he was prepared to face any legal consequences.

“If he has filed a case against me, arrest me. I have no objection. I am ready to go to jail. I do not know anything about any video,” the Chief Minister said.

However, Sarma reiterated his firm political stance, asserting that he remains opposed to illegal immigration. “I stand by my words. I am against Bangladeshi infiltrators and I will continue to be against them,” he added.
