Ashok Singhal: Boko-Chaygaon, Dudhnoi & West Goalpara polls a ‘battle of margins’, not BJP vs Congress
The BJP-led alliance on March 24 inaugurated its central election campaign office for the 28 Boko-Chaygaon constituency at Kenduguri, marking a high-energy start to its local campaign push.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony was led by Assam Cabinet Minister Ashok Singhal, with Tankeshwar Rabha, Chief Executive Member of the Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council, in attendance. Several key figures, including Council Chairman Sonaram Rabha and executive members Sumit Rabha, Arjun Chettri, Aditya Rabha, and Ramakanta Rabha, along with AGP leaders and party workers, were present at the event.
A public meeting followed the inauguration, during which BJP candidate Raju Mesh’s campaign song was released. Addressing the gathering, Mesh promised to work towards resolving long-pending issues in the constituency and expressed confidence of strong public backing.
South Kamrup BJP president Anjan Goswami projected a decisive victory for Mesh, claiming he would win by a margin exceeding one lakh votes. Tankeshwar Rabha said the constituency, after years of stagnation, is now looking towards a phase of renewed development and leadership, while criticising the Congress for its track record in the region.
In his speech, Singhal downplayed the contest as a direct BJP versus Congress fight, instead describing it as a competition of victory margins among BJP candidates across Boko-Chaygaon, Dudhnoi, and West Goalpara. He also launched a sharp attack on the Congress, alleging corruption and irregularities in jobs and ticket distribution, while highlighting the BJP government’s record of providing over 1.61 lakh jobs in the past five years.
Singhal further invoked the legacy of Raju Mesh’s father, Lalit Mesh, describing him as the first BJP martyr from the region. He thanked Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for fielding Mesh as the alliance candidate.
The event concluded with a symbolic show of support as Singhal urged attendees to switch on their mobile torchlights, creating a striking visual display to endorse Mesh’s candidature.
