Assam: 106-year-old grandma deprived of government benefits due to unavailability of Aadhaar Card

A 106-year-old elderly woman in Assam’s Bongaigaon is still waiting to receive government benefits and her dream of getting the facilities seems to be a far-reached dream due to the unavailability Aadhaar card.

Manomati Sarkar, a Centurion from Bajitpara village of Dhantola gram panchayat under Bo Itamari development block of Bongaigaon district, does not get any government benefits.

From the free rice of the Anna Suraksha Yojana to the old age pension or financial aid from the Arunodoi scheme to the house of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, the 106-year-old grandmother is passing each day in extreme sadness with none to rely on for her sustenance following the unavailability of an Aadhaar card.

Even after applying several times for an Aadhaar Card, the woman didn’t receive one and hence urged Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to help her out with this.

Noteworthy, due to old age, the woman’s fingerprints could not be registered as the skin on her palm and fingers have cracked, rubbing off the fingerprints required for registering an Aadhaar card.

Due to this, the old woman’s last resort to achieve government benefits has shut down, leaving her helpless and dejected.
