Thirteen pigs have died in rapid succession at a farm in Bogoribari, Sadiya, in what the owner suspects is the result of a flu outbreak. The incident has sparked outrage from the farmer, who accuses the local Veterinary Department of gross negligence.
Farm owner Dharani Chiring, a young entrepreneur, said he had repeatedly alerted the Sadiya Veterinary Department after his pigs began showing signs of illness.
Despite multiple reports, he claims no veterinary officials visited or took preventive measures, leading to the sudden deaths.
Chiring fears that the outbreak could spread further if left unchecked. “I informed them several times, but they did nothing. Now I have lost 13 pigs,” he said, expressing anger over what he calls “extreme irresponsibility” from the authorities.
The deaths have raised concerns among other pig farmers in the region, who worry about potential economic losses if the suspected flu is not contained.
As of now, there has been no official statement from the Veterinary Department regarding the incident or any measures being taken.
