Assam: 1500 Congress workers join BJP during mass joining programme in Karimganj

Around 1500 Congress workers made a significant shift to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in a gathering led by Piyush Hazarika, the Minister-in-charge of Karimganj signaling a notable political development in the region.
The transition of these workers to the BJP is anticipated to bolster the electoral prospects of Kripanath Mallah, increasing his vote bank in Karimganj by an estimated 20,000. However, it's worth mentioning that three-time MLA from North Karimganj, Kamalaksha Purkayastha, hasn't officially joined the BJP but has extended his support to the party.

Minister Piyush Hazarika emphasized the significance of this influx of Congress workers into the BJP fold highlighting the growing attraction towards the BJP's ideology and leadership.

The move comes on the heels of a crucial meeting of party workers convened by the Chief Minister, indicating a strategic effort to consolidate the party's position in the region. Today's event saw a substantial number of Congress workers formally aligning with the BJP, showcasing a shift in political allegiance.

While welcoming the new entrants, Hazarika seized the opportunity to criticize the Congress party emphasizing the BJP's commitment to development and good governance.

Meanwhile, Kamalaksha De Purkayastha, though not directly joining the BJP lauded the developmental initiatives undertaken by both the Chief Minister and the Prime Minister hinting at a broader sentiment of support for the ruling party's agenda.

The mass defection of Congress workers underscores the BJP's growing influence and political prowess in the region, setting the stage for an intriguing electoral landscape in the upcoming elections.
