Assam: 17-year-old found murdered at father’s quarters in Khetri, probe underway

A 17-year-old Class 11 student was found murdered at his father’s residential quarters within the premises of a state hospital in Khetri in Assam’s Sonapur area on Sunday, September 6, with police launching an investigation into the incident.

The deceased has been identified as Gandip Lahon Sharma, a student of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Sonapur.

According to preliminary information, Sharma was alone at the residence when the incident took place as his parents had taken his younger brother to a music school on Sunday.

The boy’s parents later returned home and found him lying dead with his hands and legs tied, sources said.

Police subsequently took Sharma to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

The victim’s father, Manoj Sharma, is employed as a compounder at the state hospital at Khetri Tiniali, and the family resides in the quarters within the hospital premises.

Police officials, including a senior team, reached the spot and began investigating the circumstances surrounding the killing.

The motive behind the murder and the identity of those involved are yet to be established.

The incident has triggered shock and grief in the area.
