Assam: 19-year-old student held in Bijni over Instagram post supporting Pakistan

A 19-year-old Higher Secondary final year student has been arrested in Assam's Chirang district for allegedly uploading a video on social media in support of Pakistan.

The accused, identified as Ariful Ali, a resident of Bhaoraguri in Bijni, was reportedly taken into custody after local authorities were alerted to the controversial content on his Instagram account.

According to police sources, the video uploaded by the student contained statements or imagery that praised Pakistan—raising serious concerns over national sentiment, especially in the context of heightened sensitivity around online expressions involving hostile nations.

Law enforcement officials are currently investigating the intent and possible affiliations behind the post. Ariful was appearing for the ongoing Higher Secondary final examinations at the time of his arrest.
