Assam: 2 Naga youths arrested with drugs in Merapani, handed over to Nagaland police

Two Naga youths were arrested in Merapani along Assam-Nagaland border for carrying illegal drugs. The CRPF, which was stationed at the border, apprehended the youths but handed them over to the Nagaland police.

This action has sparked dissatisfaction among local residents, who have expressed concerns over the handling of the situation by the CRPF.

As per preliminary reports, on Wednesday evening, two Naga youths were apprehended by local residents in the Deyalpur area near the Merapani police station for transporting illegal drugs on a motorcycle. However, the situation escalated when the CRPF, stationed as a neutral force, intervened and notified the Nagaland police instead of Assam police.

The two apprehended individuals, Ranch Kikon and Chambe, were alleged to be Naga police officers. The duo was found in possession of 333 tablets of the banned drug 'Simpex.' Despite the involvement of Assam police, the CRPF handed the drug offenders over to the Nagaland police, who promptly took them back to Nagaland.

This incident has raised significant concerns among the Assamese population living near the border, who are expressing frustration and disappointment over the inability of Assam police to take action.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage and cast doubt on the jurisdictional authority of Assam in its own territory.
