Authorities have apprehended a suspected drug peddler named Rukma Basumatari from Umarangsu in Dima Hasao district, along with a considerable quantity of drugs. Acting on confidential information, the police conducted a covert operation late last night, resulting in the arrest of the individual from her residence.
Rukma Basumatari is alleged to have been involved in the sale of narcotics, particularly for the purpose of distributing alcohol clandestinely. He was apprehended based on a tip-off received from a confidential source.
"I have bought 3 kg of drugs from Lanka. I take brown sugar”, Rukma spoke to the media. He further confirmed having no further group of members along with him.
The authorities have ensured the suspect's uninterrupted custody and are proceeding with the legal process to ensure Umarangsu remains free from the clutches of drugs.
“Rukma Basumatary, 22 years old, has confessed to taking Brown sugar and is an addict of drug abuse”, confirmed the doctor. Further medical professionals have confirmed the addictive nature of drugs and have suggested medical treatment for the same. This arrest is part of the police's concerted efforts to reduce the incidence of accidents by curbing the sale and consumption of drugs. Notably, Umarangsu has witnessed over 50 accidents on the drug-infested roads this year, resulting in 37 fatalities.
